Sõka, once a peaceful agricultural area surrounded by water and greenery, lies in the Nakagawa-ayase basin. As a result of urbanization, the once abundant greenery and clean water was adversely affected.

Play the game! Supervillain or Newt?

I don’t know why there isn’t as much interest in how Mitt made his money as there is his average tax rate. The only reason his rate is sub 14% is that a lot of the money he made as income has been characterized as capital gain. This is the “carried interest” gimmick that many tax critics want to get rid of.

The state of American prisons: “The scale and the brutality of our prisons are the moral scandal of American life. Every day, at least fifty thousand men—a full house at Yankee Stadium—wake in solitary confinement, often in “supermax” prisons or prison wings, in which men are locked in small cells, where they see no one, cannot freely read and write, and are allowed out just once a day for an hour’s solo “exercise.”

A lot of sales. And it’s mostly iPhones.

Newt’s big ideas: “Continuing with the theme of politicizing America’s least-political institutions, during his victory speech in South Carolina, Gingrich said that “on the issue of money and the Federal Reserve,” Ron Paul “has been right for 25 years.” Paul, of course, believes we should “end the Fed” and return to a gold-backed currency. Gingrich, apparently, agrees with him. Economists don’t. The University of Chicago recently asked 40 prominent economists whether a gold standard would be “better for the average American.” Every one said no. “Why tie to gold?” asked Chicago’s Richard Thaler. “Why not 1982 Bordeaux?”

Where do they get these legislators?
A bill introduced in the Oklahoma Legislature has some folks scratching their heads, as it prohibits “the manufacture or sale of food or products which use aborted human fetuses.”

Scott’s Believer Radar : “It’s starting to look as if Newt Gingrich will be the Republican nominee. If so, this might be the first time two non-believers ran against each other for President of the United States.”

Why Newt and Mitt don’t know Jack about navies:
But all Romney sees is a Navy in decline. He reprised an omnibus line of attack on Obama: “Under this president and under prior presidents, we keep on shrinking our Navy. Our Navy is now smaller than any time since 1917.”
This is the sort of thing that’s literally true but meaningless in context. Counting ships is less important than counting types of ships, because they offer different sea power options. In 1917, the Navy did not have any aircraft carriers. It did not have silent, nuclear-powered (let alone nuclear-armed) spying submarines.”
